Overview
The Department of Computer Science and Technology was established in 1978. It has 111 faculty members, including 31 professors, 40 associate professors and 13 lecturers. Among them, there are 3 academicians, 3 Distinguished Professors of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, 11 Distinguished Professors of the Hundred-Talent Program, and 3 chief scientists of the National 973 Program. In addition, many international academic experts are invited as the part-time professors to guide the students.
Discipline Construction
The Department of Computer Science and Technology has one national key discipline (the computer science and technology). The first-level discipline contains three second-levels (computer system architecture, computer software and theory, computer application), as well as one self-established second-level discipline (intelligent science and technology). Among them, the computer software and theory, and the computer application technology are authorized as the national key secondary disciplines. Meanwhile, the Department of Computer Science and Technology also contains two national level laboratories ("National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center” and " National Engineering Laboratory for Video Technology "), as well as a number of key laboratories of the Ministry of Education.
The Department of Computer Science and Technology of Peking University covers the most comprehensive research fields in China. We conduct a wide range of researches in various areas, including software engineering, information security, human-computer interaction and multimedia, search engine and information mining, database and information systems, cloud computing, mobile computing and wireless autonomous networks, computational linguistics, microprocessor research, digital audio and video coding, multimedia communications, digital media processing platform, computer reconfigurable logic CECARL, non-volatile memory technology, 3D chip technology, hardware architecture for energy efficient wireless LAN, and energy-efficient applications.
The Department of Computer Science and Technology keeps a close academic relationship with many Chinese and international universities and research institutes, such as UCLA, UCSB, Oregon University, Durham University, Waseda University, (Hsinchu) Tsinghua University, Jiaotong University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Waterloo, University of Sydney Technology, University of Westminster, etc. We also cooperate with many well-known companies in the industry closely, such as IBM China Research Institute, Baidu, Bell Laboratories, Intel Laboratory, HP Labs, Microsoft Research at Asia, etc. The Department of Computer Science and Technology helps students broaden their horizons by providing opportunities of international exchange, internships in well-known enterprises, and various competitions.
Research Achievements
Relying on the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, the Department of Computer Science and Technology establishes six scientific research institutions according to the research directions, including Center for High Efficiency Computing and Applications, Institute of Digital Media, Institute of Computational Linguistics, Institute of Software, Institute of Computer Networks and Information Systems, and Institute of Computer Architecture.
The Department of Computer Science and Technology encourages students to publish academic papers in top international journals and conferences because of its belief on the quality rather than quantity. In 2014, 64 papers are accepted by top journals and conferences (such as IEEE TPDS, ACM TOCS, ISCA, PLDI, etc.). In addition, the Department of Computer Science and Technology also makes significant achievements in science and technology awards. In 2006, "The software development platform, which based on the Internet and component library", won the second prize of the national scientific and technological progress award. In 2008, "The core technology and application of the component application server" won the second prize of national technology invention award. In 2010, "The technology and application of cross-secure domain isolation and information exchange" and "One million digital library multimedia technology and intelligent service system" won the second prize of national scientific and technological progress award. In 2012, "The modeling theory and methodology of the life cycle of software architecture" won the second prize of national natural science award.
