Hou, Shimin is a professor in the Department of Electronics, School of EECS, and has served as the Vice Dean since 2010. He obtained his B.Sc. and Ph.D. from Peking University in 1994 and 1998, respectively. His research interests include molecular electronics, first-principle calculations on electronic properties of nanostructures.
Dr. Hou has published more than 110 research papers, and many of them are published in top journals in nanoscience and nanotechnology, such as Journal of the American chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Advanced Materials, ACS Nano, Physical Review B, Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Chemical Physics and Nanotechnology. He was enrolled in the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University in 2007.
Dr. Hou has more than ten research projects including NSFC, 973 programs, etc. His research achievements are summarized as follows:
1) Development of theoretical methods of molecular electronics: systematically investigate the effects of electron correlation, spin-orbit coupling, current-induced forces and the electrode dimensionality on the electronic properties and the stability of molecular devices.
2) Analysis of the conducting mechanism of representative molecular devices such as the Au-4’4-bipyridene-Au, Au-1, 4-diaminobenzene-Au and Ag-benzene-Ag junctions.
3) Design novel molecular electronic devices including SWCNT-based spin filters, quantum phase transistor, the Au-benzene-Au and Pt-paracyclophane-Pt molecular junctions.
