Liu, Aimin is an associate professor in the Department of Electronics Science and technology, School of EECS. He obtained his B.Sc. from Hunan Normal University in 1988, and Ph.D. from Peking University in 1998 respectively. His research interests include the design, simulation, realization of the communication signal processing, and the design, simulation and implementation of transport protocol and network protocol.
Dr. Liu has some research projects, including design, simulation, realization, etc. His research achievements are summarized as follows:
1) The performance analysis of communication systems: One major research topic is to evaluate the performance by formula-based calculations and computer simulations. He proposed some new formula representation methods to evaluate the reliability of telecommunication network, the performance of satellite phone system, and design corresponding simulation systems. He also analysis the transport performance of satellite width-band communication links by simulation method.
2) Integrated services satellite communication system: Integrated services such as data and voice transmitting in satellite system is irreplaceable. He and his team designed three integrated service satellite communication system:
a) The first generation of commercial CDMA system: Data and voice are transmitted on I and Q path respectively. He participated in the design of data transmission, completed the TCP/IP adaptive applications in satellite system. At the same time, he is responsible for the design and implementation of circuit switched voice subsystem, in which the rate of each voice in satellite channel is 2.4 kbps.
b) The first generation of commercial data broadcast distribution system: data broadcasting is the main business of the system, but two-way stations has also the ability to support integrated services. He participated in the designing of MAC layer protocol, the planning and implementation of network layer protocol. At the same time, he is responsible for the design and realization of the full digital packet-switched voice subsystems, in which the rate of each voice in satellite channel is 2.4 kbps.
c) The second generation of the CDMA system: The rate of station in the system is dynamic, adjustable. He is responsible for the planning and design of transmission system, the design of the MAC layer protocol design, the design and realization of all-digital packet-switched voice communication subsystem, in which the rate of each voice is dynamically adjustable from 600 bps, 1200 bps to 2400 bps.
