Li, Juhao is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and technology, School of EECS. He obtained his B.Sc. and Ph.D. from Peking University in 1999 and 2009, respectively. His research interests include high-speed optical fiber transmission systems, next-generation optical access and switching networks, spatial division multiplexing in optical fiber.
Dr. Li has published more than 90 research papers since 2012 as the first author or corresponding author, in which there are 34 SCI Journal papers published in top-tier journals, such as Opt. Exp., IEEE JLT, IEEE PTL, IEEE PJ, JOCN and OFT, and there are 18 conference papers published in OFC and CLEO. He has 3 invited papers published in JOCN and OFT, and 9 invited talks in international conference such as ACP, Photonics West, ICOCN. He has 1 authorized international patent and 4 authorized patents in China. He has served as TPC member of various international conferences including ACP, ICOCN, ChinaCOM. He has served as editor of Modern Transmission in China.
Dr. Li has more than ten research projects including NSFC, 973 programs, 863 project, etc. His research achievements are summarized as follows:
1) Weakly-coupled mode-division-multiplexing (MDM) in optical fiber: MDM is an effective approach to enhance capacity of optical fiber, but only weakly-coupled MDM with very low modal crosstalk is suitable for short-reach scenarios such as datacenter, PON and optical interconnections. Dr. Li has presented the first experimental demonstration of weakly-coupled MDM-PON in postdeadline session of ACP 2014, demonstrated record independent 2-mode transmission over 55-km few-mode fiber (FMF) in IEEE PJ 2015, demonstrate bidirectional MDM-WDM-TDM PON transmission in OFC 2016, and demonstrate record independent 2-mode transmission over 120-km FMF and 4-mode MDM-transmission over OM3 MMF in OFC 2017. These works have removed the obstacles for short-reach MDM applications.
2) Optical superchannel based on single carrier and frequency-domain equalization: Dr. Li has compared CO-SCFDE and CO-OFDM in IEEE PTL and pointed out that single carrier modulation has better performance than multiple carrier, which is the first analysis between them. Then he has demonstrated 1.08-Tb/s SCFDM long-haul transmission over 3170 km, which was the record reach for such systems. He has demonstrated optical switching nodes based on such optical superchannels and multiple functionalities for the elastic optical networks. These works are important for the realization of software-defined optical networks.
